GLEE
Ok, so I know we all need a little bit of a guilty pleasure show, and I have PLENTY, but I have to wonder why I watch this show.
So if you missed the show, you would know that the best part of the show is when they sing. Aside from that, the writing is, at best, mediocre, plot lines are ridiculous and the only person worth really digging into, character-wise, is Sue, played by the always incredible Jane Lynch.
The season opened with the Glee kids back as the underdogs, once again, and nerdier than ever. I don't get how they ever thought they would be the "cool" kids in the first place. You're in Glee. I don't care how many times you win, it's very rare to go from nerd to cool in one year. So, now they are on the prowl for some new recruits and, as per usual, Rachel (played by Lea Michelle) is scary jealous of someone stealing her thunder. This is horribly masked throughout the episode as "her love" for the other students and how she doesn't want someone to steal the already few solos they get. Get new story lines. This is insanely tired and leads to a random duet between her and the foreign exchange student played by Charice, in the bathroom. Which is ended by the one and only true comedic moment of the show.
However, that moment is near the beginning of the episode. So there's more.
Matthew Morrison, their teacher gets into cahoots with Sue to bring down the new football coach, who is a woman, and has stolen their budget because she's awesome. But they make her feel like an outcast and you find out she actually is more sensitive than they originally thought. Pretty basic story line. Nothing too impressive.
Then, wheelchair boy is mad because his asian girlfriend is now dating the asian guy who can dance. Well, from the looks of his body with his shirt off, can we blame her? Blonde girl who had a baby last season is now back on top of the cheerios and bitchier than ever. And oh yeah, the gay kid and black girl are hardly in the episode.
And we can't forget Cheyenne Jackson's random cameo at the end, and the revelation that Charice's character is going over to their rival school because they got her mom and house and a greencard. I'm sorry, I didn't realize we were in Texas and the high school activity in question was football. Because that's the only time I've heard of a high school program having even half the money to pull something like that off. But I guess in Ohio, it's the glee club that has all the money.
Overall, season two's beginning leads me to believe that it will be a lot of back and forth like last year; we're cool, we're not cool. We're in, we're out. We're up we're down. We're a katy perry song, we're a katy perry song. I'm sorry that's just how it plays out. And from what I understand, most people hate Katy Perry so I'm curious why we all love this show. The writing is mediocre, the acting is lackluster, except for Jane Lynch and Heather Morris (Brittany the dumb cheerleader)
I am excited for the Britney episode coming up. But a show shouldn't need a musical theme to get people excited. The writing and story should do that. But I'm now convinced, more than ever that this show is exceptionally bad. And I also know taht most people can't get enough of it. Call me crazy, but I'm into it.
