Wednesday NIgth Roundup

Wednesday night will find me camping out with ABC's line up. Why? You might ask. Because it's the best night of comedy of the week.

To start it off is The Middle. I watch this show, but I can take it or leave it. And right now, I'll leave it because I don't really want to write about it.

But the next show is Better with You. Surprisingly very cute. I had very low expectations going in, but it really proved me wrong.

The show follows three couples during various stages of their relationships. The lead is Joanna Garcia as Mia, and her boyfriend Casey, played by Jake Lacy. They have been dating for two months and are engaged/pregnant. It's a huge surprise and has disaster written all over it, butfor whatever reason it works. They are cute and funny and I wouldn't be surprised if Jake Lacy breaks out in a huge way.

The next couple is Mia's sister Maddie and her boyfriend of nine years, Ben. They've decided not to get married and constantly remind people that it's a "valid life choice." Obviously neither believe it, but it's funny to watch them try to defend it.

And finally Mia and Maddie's parents, who have been married for thirty something years. Obviously they are the funniest of the pairings and really bring the comedy home in one really fantastic scene.

In the first episode they bring out that the parents secretly hate their daughter's "valid life choice" and are super excited about the other daughter's marriage and pregnancy which sends everyone into a tizzy about what they are doing with their lives.

Pretty simple stuff and it's funny. I doubt the show will last longer than two seasons, but it's fun for now.

Modern Family.

OK, this is my show. My favorite on television and I felt it was a pretty weak opener for their second season.

The show opens on Mitchell and Cameron trying to be all handy, but we find out that Mitchell is clumsier than Michael J. Fox on a good day, and Cameron is terrified of home project, so he invites Mitchell's dad over to help build their daughter a princess castle in the back yard. Mitchell eventually finds out about the plot and vows to make a go of it on his own and gets himself stuck inside the castle.

Gloria struggles with the fact that Manny has a new crush on the girl coming over to do school work with him. They get into a hilarious fight over chocolate milk and salt and decide to let Manny choose between them. He obviously chooses that which will crush his mother's heart. Obviously he doesn't realize at the time. By the end of the scenario, he chooses to leave the girl because she orders for him, and when Gloria thinks her baby has come back to him, he calls another girl sending Gloria into another fit of rage and jealousy.

Phil and the gang are trying to sell an old car that just sits in their garage. They set out to reclaim old memories and end up sick, fighting and eventually the car is sent down the side of a cliff. The entire family ends up walking home and having a sentimental trip down memory lane.

Overall, I thought this show could have been a little bit stronger. I thought it was a little too sentimental for this show. Season one had so few moments of sentimentality that when they happened, they really punched. I think since they ended season one on such a sweet note, they should have focused on the comedy and really brought it up a notch. However, it was still the funniest show of the week.

(Still) Cougar Town

Does anyone else love that they named the show (still) Cougar Town? I think it's genius. There was so much debate over what to name the show and they kept it. Brilliant

The show opened it's season with a wonderful cameo by Jennifer Anniston and the season's lowest ratings ever. Do the two relate? Who knows? Who cares? It was still funny as shit!

They all try out this new drinking game where they give descriptions of two different movies and then someone has to guess the title. And the title is a before and after kinda thing. I actually want a group of people to play this with. Travis is about to head off to college and gets in a game with Laurie and they compete in who can stay awake the longest. Of course Laurie cheats, but Travis has no idea and it's hilarious of course. Ellie is jealous of Jules' new therapist, Jennifer Anniston, and they have to prove her basically insane for Jules to come back. Grayson needs a day off from jules and once he gets it, he realizes he needs her more than he thought.

Overall, I thought this episode was the most clever of the week. It continued on with the expectations of the show and actually made fun of itself a little. It's light hearted and doesn't take itself too seriously. I think the entire cast make the show amazing. Yes, Courtney Cox's Jules is a little bit too much like an alcoholic Monica, but the rest of the cast makes up for it. They bring her up a notch. And if you need any reason other than that to watch this show, two people shoudl be enough; Ian Gomez and Christa Miller. They are freaking genius.

Love and keep watching!!!
